Our dynamic educational model, inspired by the principles and practices of Reggio Emilia and delivered through the structure of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, ignites a passion for lifelong learning. Our ‘Leading self and others’ approach provides opportunities for students to act in roles of responsibility with integrity and honesty; work with others to determine and achieve collective goals and take on responsibilities to use decision making skills in order to carry a project through to a successful conclusion.
As we seek to foster the individuality of each student, a major focus in Wardle House is on educational growth through the key learning areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Our passionate teachers create learning opportunities throughout Wardle House by making use of innovative spaces, next practice research and resources to excite and inspire young learners.

A Lifelong Love of Learning
At Toorak College, we recognise that early engagement with formal learning is critical in your child’s development and our dynamic education model aims to nurture the innate, natural curiosity in every child to create a lifelong love of learning.
The principles and practices of Reggio Emilia are further embedded as students journey from Prep to Year 2, resulting in a stimulating learning community. Delivery of curriculum, through the Primary Years Programme, promotes learning through inquiry and encourages students to reflect on and connect their learning to the world around them.
We recognise that children learn in different ways and our engaging, collaborative and inspiring curriculum provides clear instruction to ensure the development of key literacy and numeracy skills, whilst investigating big ideas, valuing individual contribution and striving for personal best.
Fostering Collaboration, Independence and Resilience
In Years 3 and 4, we encourage students to become independent, responsible and organised both inside and outside of the classroom. Our program is responsive and engaging, embedding digital technology to inspire students to explore a complex, challenging and changing world.
Through individual and collaborative learning, we help students develop strong academic, social, self-management and leadership skills to nurture individual growth.
Year 3 students embark on their first overnight ‘adventure experience’ at Camp Manyung, where they are encouraged to develop resilience in a safe and supportive environment. By Year 4, students are ready for a two-night exploration of the precious habitat in the unique environment of Phillip Island.
Year 3 students are also part of the Wardle House Instrumental Strings Program (WHISP) through our Music Department, where they receive string instrumental tuition and learn ensemble skills. All students are members of the 3/4 Choir, performing at school and in public events.
The All-Girl Learning Environment
Research continues to show that gender differences begin to have an impact on girls in their middle years of schooling. In line with our belief that girls from adolescence excel in an all-girl learning environment, we begin our girls-only Middle Years Program in Years 5 and 6 as part of the transition into our girls-only Senior School by further developing links to the Senior School facilities, teachers and programs.
The specific focus in Year 5 is on Science and Technology and, through our 1:1 Laptop Program, Information and Communication Technology skills are accelerated, helping students optimise their learning through technology. To celebrate the learning throughout their primary years, Year 6 students complete an independent, in-depth research inquiry culminating in the PYP Exhibition.
An emphasis on the Performing Arts prepares students for our annual Year 6 musical production. Students participate in music and performance through choir, ensemble, music and movement classes and private instrumental lessons.
Years 5 and 6 are important leadership years at Toorak College and our ‘Leadership Through Service’ philosophy nurtures independence, decision-making and responsible citizenship. Year 6 students have an opportunity to hold a variety of leadership roles throughout the year.
Additionally, our Outdoor Education Program explores a range of important cultural, historical, social, civic and recreational activities through excursions to Melbourne, Ballarat and Canberra.
